Zulu – The optimal 5.56 integral!
The Zulu integral suppressor for the AR15 is the culmination of several years of research into building the perfect 5.56 integral upper assembly. We worked on several things such as sound performance, back pressure management, bolt carrier velocity, ejection port noise, accuracy, and many more criteria to bring you the perfect balance in all these areas.
First we started off with a great base platform by using Aero Precision premium uppers and rails, St. Croix bolt carrier groups, and a custom spec stainless barrels. We have built this integral suppressor system with titanium where possible to keep weight down and Inconel where needed to add great service life to the system. The top off this whole project, the whole thing comes wrapped in a Liberty’s Defense fireproof suppressor heat shield! Call today to get yours!
The Zulu 5.56 integral suppressor is a special integral, with many features that set it apart from the crowd.
The best feature that the Zulu has to offer is its suppression. With a huge (over 7″ long!) expansion chamber, we’re able to allow the inial high pressure gas to expand, disperse, and drop in pressure. This means that the monocore has to do less work, though it’s also larger in diameter than most 5.56 silencers. The result is an amazing sound profile, and superb suppression all around. This is a hard 5.56 integral to beat!
With most short barreled 5.56 setups, the shooter must contend with a great deal of back pressure and gas blowback. This is because most 10.5″ AR barrels are set up to run unsuppressed, and then when a silencer is added the back pressure is increased greatly. The Zulu solves this problem by being pre-tuned to run suppressed only, and we further aid this by tuning the system. The result is an incredibly flat shooting and smooth cycling upper that feels better than most unsuppressed 16″ guns!
Titanium is the material of choice for the Zulu’s monocore, for its lightweight and high strength characteristics. This monocore is optimized for the slower pressure wave generated because of our huge expansion chamber. We also include an inconel blast baffle for superb wear resistance. This makes the integral suppressor module one that will last for many thousands of rounds.
The overall length of the Zulu barrel / silencer assembly is 16.5″. This puts it above the NFA’s SBR restrictions, meaning it can be transported across state lines with no ATF involvement! Compare this length to a 10.5″ upper with a normal muzzle can that’s about 6″ long and you’ll find that the Zulu strikes an excellent balance and form factor.
The Zulu’s front cap has a venting feature, by which it bleeds off gas at a lower pressure. This reduces pressure inside the silencer, further reducing back pressure and gas blowback by venting forward.
By using a full 12.5″ rail and keeping the overall silencer/ barrel length to 16.5″, there is not much of the silencer sticking out of the handgaurd. This is advantageous as it allows a more forward grip if the user prefers, and allows white or IR lights to be pushed forward far enough that the suppressor isn’t occluding a large portion of the light. This is something that most suppressed SBR uppers can’t do, as the even a very short can will stick past the rail by more than 4″.
